How is tumor burden measured and is this performed in every patient?

Hello, my name is Massimo Federico, director of medical oncology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in Italy, and also president of the Fondazione Italiana Linfomi. I am very glad to be here and also to try to make a contribution to more frequent questions that people need to be answered for better treating patients with Hodgkin lymphoma.

Honestly, it is a time-consuming activity. So, in clinical trials, we perform an exact assessment of tumor burden evaluation. In clinical practice, we prefer just to have an idea of the maximum diameter or as recently also documented during this conference could be worth also to calculate not only the transverse diameter if you start with a CT image but also the coronal image can also disclose those cases that have high tumor burden but was unsuspected based only on the transverse diameter calculation.
